Leslie Madsen-Brooks, Ph.D., has a passion for museums. Her research has examined the history of women scientists working in natural history museums, the ways science centers encourage or discourage girls, how best to present American material culture to lay audiences, and more.
In addition to this research, Leslie has worked in museum education, exhibition development, arts marketing, journalism, educational publishing, and university development. She has taught literature, writing, and American Studies at the university level. She also holds degrees in English and writing.
Leslie is a contributing editor for Research and Academia at BlogHer and a partner in TerraFirma Creative Group, a graphic design and editorial services firm.
Leslie is available for consultation on:
- using blogs to promote informal learning organizations. She will assist in the development, design, and maintenance of blogs for these institutions.- taking race, class, and gender into account in designing museum and science center exhibits, programs, and curriculum.
- increasing public interest in obscure or everyday artifacts in museum collections.
She also undertakes research and writes copy for blogs, exhibition labels, exhibit catalogs, curriculum and outreach materials, and marketing collateral for museums, science centers, botanical gardens, aquariums, zoos, and related institutions.
